## The short answer

This mycotoxin test for humans measures 29 mold toxins (mycotoxins) in one at-home urine sample, including ochratoxin A, aflatoxins and trichothecenes. Mycotoxins are measured by LC-MS/MS and urine results are creatinine-corrected. A result shows exposure, not its source, and it is not a diagnosis. It is part of one 133+ marker test that is HSA/FSA eligible.[[1]](#source-1)[[8]](#source-8)

This at-home mold toxicity test measures 29 mycotoxins in a urine sample. It is part of one all-in-one test, so the same order also covers heavy metals, plastics chemicals, pesticides, PFAS and toxin genetics: 133+ markers for **$1,999 per participant**.[[1]](#source-1)[[2]](#source-2)

Mycotoxins can come from damp buildings and from food; FDA monitors mycotoxins in the food supply.[[5]](#source-5) So a result shows what appeared in your sample, not where it came from.

**Limits.** These are laboratory-developed tests and are **not FDA-cleared**. Results are educational and are **not a diagnosis**. A single sample is a snapshot of recent exposure, and a result does not show where an exposure came from. Talk to your clinician about your results and before changing any treatment. The package is not available in New York.

## How to choose a mycotoxin test

Check these points before you order any mycotoxin test:

- **Body or home?** A urine mycotoxin test looks at your own sample. ERMI, air or dust tests look at the building instead.[[4]](#source-4)
- **Urine or blood?** Urine panels measure mycotoxins themselves. A mold blood test usually measures IgE antibodies, which show sensitization (allergy) to molds, not mycotoxins.[[9]](#source-9)
- **How many mycotoxins, and which families?** Published urine panels differ in how many mycotoxins they list.[[10]](#source-10) This test lists 29, across aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, trichothecenes and other mycotoxins.[[1]](#source-1)
- **Method and correction.** Ask how results are measured and adjusted. Here mycotoxins are measured by LC-MS/MS and urine results are creatinine-corrected.[[8]](#source-8)
- **Ordering.** Check whether you need a doctor’s order. You can order this test online yourself and collect your sample at home.[[7]](#source-7)
- **Total cost.** Compare what the price includes: one category or several, which sample types, and what support follows the result.[[7]](#source-7)
- **Limits.** No urine test identifies where a mycotoxin came from or diagnoses mold illness.[[10]](#source-10)

## Home mold test vs body test

**A home mold test** looks at the building. ERMI, for example, analyzes DNA from 36 indicator molds in household dust; EPA says it was developed for research and does not recommend routine public use in homes.[[4]](#source-4) CDC does not recommend mold testing in homes: if you see or smell mold, fix the moisture and clean it up.[[3]](#source-3)

**A body test** like this one looks at which mycotoxins appeared in your own urine sample. It cannot tell you whether your house has mold.[[2]](#source-2)

## Mold toxin (urine) test vs mold blood test vs home mold test

Three kinds of mold test. Generic comparison: no specific brands, no prices. Sources checked October 28, 2026.

| Test | What it measures | What it answers | Key limit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Urine mycotoxin panel (this test) | Mycotoxins in a urine sample; 29 on this test[[1]](#source-1) | Recent exposure to the measured mycotoxins[[10]](#source-10) | Does not show the source; mycotoxins also come from food[[5]](#source-5) |
| Mold blood test (antibodies) | IgE antibodies to molds in a blood sample[[9]](#source-9) | Whether you are sensitized (allergic) to molds[[9]](#source-9) | Does not measure mycotoxins[[9]](#source-9) |
| Home ERMI, air or dust test | Mold in the building; ERMI analyzes DNA from 36 indicator molds in dust[[4]](#source-4) | What is in the building, not in your body[[4]](#source-4) | EPA does not recommend ERMI for routine use in homes, and CDC does not recommend routine mold testing in homes[[3]](#source-3)[[4]](#source-4) |

They answer different questions, so some people use more than one: fix moisture and assess the building, and use a body test to document exposure. Read more on the [mycotoxin test vs mold allergy test](https://intrinsicprism.com/learn/can-my-doctor-order-a-mycotoxin-test).

## Is a urine mycotoxin test accurate?

A good laboratory can measure many mycotoxins in urine reliably, but measurement accuracy is not the same as clinical meaning: a result shows exposure and cannot by itself identify a source, a building or a cause of symptoms.[[10]](#source-10)

Healthy people often test positive. Studies of healthy adults found ochratoxin A in 61% to 83% of urine samples, largely from food. Methods, units and creatinine adjustment also differ between labs, so compare results from the same lab over time.[[10]](#source-10) See our [mycotoxin urine test accuracy guide](https://intrinsicprism.com/learn/are-mycotoxin-urine-tests-accurate).

## What a mycotoxin test costs

This test is $1,999 per participant, one-time, and that price covers the whole 133+ marker test: the 29 mycotoxins plus heavy metals, environmental chemicals, PFAS and toxin genetics.[[7]](#source-7) It is HSA/FSA eligible: you receive an itemized invoice to claim reimbursement from your plan, and your plan administrator decides.

## Frequently asked questions

Is there a mold toxicity test for humans I can do at home?
: Yes. This kit measures 29 mycotoxins (mold toxins) in a urine sample you collect at home, and a courier picks the kit up. A result shows exposure; it is not a diagnosis of mold illness.

Which mycotoxins does the test measure?
: 29 mycotoxins in urine: aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2 and M1; ochratoxin A; the trichothecenes DON, DAS, nivalenol, roridin A, E and L2, satratoxin G and H, T-2 toxin and verrucarin A and J; and chaetoglobosin A, citrinin, dihydrocitrinone, enniatin B1, fumonisins B1, B2 and B3, gliotoxin, mycophenolic acid, patulin, sterigmatocystin and zearalenone.

Should I test my home or my body?
: They answer different questions. A home test such as ERMI looks at mold in a building; CDC does not recommend routine mold testing in homes. A urine mycotoxin test looks at what appeared in your own sample. Neither shows the source on its own.

How do I prepare for the urine sample?
: Use first-morning urine, collected before coffee, food or other drinks when possible. Limit water in the hour before, avoid high-iodine and high-selenium foods for 48 hours, and do not start a chelation or provocation protocol. Fasting is optional. Do not stop prescribed medication without asking your prescriber.

How much does the mold toxicity test cost?
: $1,999 per participant, one-time. That price is for the whole all-in-one test: mycotoxins plus heavy metals, environmental chemicals, PFAS and toxin genetics. It is HSA/FSA eligible (claim with the itemized invoice), with free US shipping.

Is the test FDA-cleared?
: No. These are laboratory-developed tests and are not FDA-cleared. Results are educational, not a diagnosis; review them with your clinician.

What is the best mycotoxin test for mold exposure?
: The best test is the one that answers your question. To check your own exposure, a urine mycotoxin panel measures the toxins themselves; this one lists 29, including ochratoxin A, aflatoxins and trichothecenes. To check a building, use a building assessment instead. No urine test names the source or diagnoses mold illness.

Mold toxin test vs mold blood test: which is better?
: They measure different things. A urine mold toxin test measures mycotoxins. A mold blood test usually measures IgE antibodies, which show whether you are sensitized (allergic) to molds, not whether mycotoxins are present. Choose by the question you and your clinician want answered.

Is a urine mycotoxin test accurate?
: A good lab can measure many mycotoxins in urine reliably, but a result shows exposure, not illness or its source. Healthy adults often have detectable ochratoxin A, largely from food, and methods differ between labs, so compare results from the same lab over time.

Can I order a mycotoxin test without a doctor?
: Yes. You order online, collect your samples at home and a courier picks up the kit. Review your results with your clinician.
