Last updated: October 28, 2026 · Last reviewed: October 28, 2026

This test does not count microplastic particles; it measures plastic-associated chemicals in urine: BPA and four phthalate metabolites, plus parabens, triclosan, 4-nonylphenol and diphenyl phosphate.[[1]](#source-1) It is part of one all-in-one 133+ marker test.[[2]](#source-2)

**$1,999** One all-in-one test: 133+ markers from one at-home kit. Per participant, one-time. HSA/FSA eligible (claim with the itemized invoice) · Free US shipping · Ships worldwide

## The short answer

A urine test for BPA and phthalate metabolites shows recent exposure to chemicals used in plastics. CDC describes phthalates as chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and harder to break, and notes that their metabolites pass out quickly in urine.[[3]](#source-3) Because these chemicals leave the body quickly, one sample reflects recent exposure, not lifetime build-up.

**Limits.** Intrinsic Prism uses laboratory-developed tests, which are not FDA-cleared. Results are educational, not a diagnosis, and do not replace care from your own clinician. The package is not available in New York.

## What does the plastic chemicals test measure?

- **Bisphenol:** bisphenol A (BPA), the only bisphenol we test (not BPS or BPF).[[1]](#source-1)
- **Phthalate metabolites (4):** MEHHP, MEOHP, MEHP and MEP.[[1]](#source-1)
- **Parabens:** methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben.[[1]](#source-1)
- **Other plastic-associated and consumer-product chemicals:** triclosan, 4-nonylphenol and diphenyl phosphate.[[1]](#source-1)

In US national survey data from 2003 to 2004, BPA was detected in most people tested.[[4]](#source-4) See the full list on [What we Test](https://intrinsicprism.com/what-we-test).

## Plastic chemicals test vs microplastics particle research

What a plastic chemicals urine test measures compared with microplastic particle research. Prepared by Intrinsic Prism, October 28, 2026.

| Approach | What it measures | Where it is done |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Plastic chemicals urine test (this test) | BPA, phthalate metabolites, parabens and related chemicals in urine[[1]](#source-1) | Collected with the at-home kit and analyzed by a laboratory[[2]](#source-2) |
| Microplastic particle measurement in blood | Plastic particles; a 2022 study measured particles of 700 nm or larger in whole blood from 22 healthy volunteers[[5]](#source-5) | Research laboratories using specialized methods[[5]](#source-5) |

We do not offer a microplastic particle test. Read [are microplastics blood tests accurate?](https://intrinsicprism.com/learn/are-microplastics-blood-tests-accurate) for what particle measurements can and cannot show.

## How to prepare

- Follow the kit instructions for each sample: urine, blood or serum, and DNA.[[2]](#source-2)
- For the urine sample, see [how to prepare for a urine toxin test](https://intrinsicprism.com/learn/how-to-prepare-for-urine-toxin-test).
- Phthalate metabolites pass out quickly in urine, so note what you ate, drank and used in the day before you collect.[[3]](#source-3)

## Price, HSA/FSA and shipping

- **$1,999 per participant, one-time.** One all-in-one test: every test page on this site sells this same kit.[[2]](#source-2)
- **HSA/FSA eligible.** You receive an itemized invoice to claim reimbursement from your plan; your plan administrator decides. See [how to claim](https://intrinsicprism.com/learn/hsa-fsa-eligible-toxin-test).
- **Free US shipping.** Ships worldwide to most countries; availability is confirmed at checkout.

## Frequently asked questions

Does this test measure microplastics?
: No. It does not count microplastic particles. It measures plastic-associated chemicals in urine: BPA, four phthalate metabolites, parabens, triclosan, 4-nonylphenol and diphenyl phosphate.[[1]](#source-1)

Which phthalates are measured?
: Four phthalate metabolites: MEHHP, MEOHP, MEHP and MEP.[[1]](#source-1)

Does the test include BPS or BPF?
: No. BPA is the only bisphenol we test.[[1]](#source-1)

Why is urine used?
: Phthalate metabolites pass out quickly in urine, so urine is used to measure recent exposure.[[3]](#source-3) Urine is also non-invasive to collect.[[6]](#source-6)

Can I buy only the plastic chemicals test?
: No. These markers are part of one test: $1,999 per participant, one-time, covering 133+ markers. It is HSA/FSA eligible; you receive an itemized invoice and your plan administrator decides reimbursement.[[2]](#source-2)

Will a result tell me what caused a symptom?
: No. A result shows exposure, not a diagnosis. Discuss results with your clinician.
