The most comprehensive toxin test: categories, counts and limits

Last updated: October 23, 2026

“Comprehensive” can mean two different things: how many categories of toxin a test covers, or how many markers it counts. In our dated comparison of 11 tests, Intrinsic Prism is the only one that lists heavy metals, mycotoxins, environmental chemicals, glyphosate, PFAS and detox genetics in one order.[1]

The short answer

The most comprehensive toxin test for you is the one that covers the exposure groups you care about, not just the highest marker count. Intrinsic Prism ($1,999 per participant) covers five groups in one order: 20 heavy metals, 29 mycotoxins, 38 environmental chemicals, 21 PFAS and 25 detox gene variants, 133+ markers in total.

What does “comprehensive” mean for a toxin test?

A test can be broad (many categories in one order) or deep (many markers in one category). A metals-only or PFAS-only test can list more markers in its category than a broad panel, and some urine panels list more metals or mycotoxins than we do. Compare the categories you care about first, then the marker count inside each one.[1]

Categories versus counts

On counts alone, other panels lead in some categories: US BioTek lists 41 elements and 31 mycotoxins plus 120+ organic acids, and RealTime lists 42 metal and mineral markers and 31 mycotoxins.[1] Intrinsic Prism lists 20 metals and elements, 29 mycotoxins, 38 environmental toxins, a blood PFAS panel and detox gene variants: 133+ markers across five categories.[2] We describe our package as the most comprehensive at-home total toxin burden test available, with 133+ markers; that is our statement, based on category coverage, and you can check every row yourself.[1][3]

How the Intrinsic Prism test works

Order online, collect your samples at home with the kit, and a courier picks them up.[3] Samples are urine for most toxin markers, blood or serum for PFAS and DNA for genetic variants.[2] The package is $1,999 per participant and HSA/FSA eligible, with AI analytics, a personalized protocol and 24/7 guidance.[3]

What no toxin test can tell you

CDC says the measurement of an environmental chemical in a person’s blood or urine is a measure of exposure and does not by itself mean that the chemical causes disease or an adverse effect.[4] Our plastics markers are chemicals such as BPA and phthalates, not microplastic particles; a urine mercury result cannot identify the source, and its meaning varies by mercury form; and most pesticide markers are class-level.[2]

Limitations: a single sample is a snapshot of recent exposure; urine results depend on hydration and timing, which is why labs adjust for creatinine; reference ranges for many chemicals come from population surveys such as CDC's NHANES, not disease cut-offs; and urine mycotoxin testing is still debated.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most comprehensive toxin test?

It depends on whether you mean categories or counts. In our dated comparison of 11 tests, Intrinsic Prism is the only one that lists heavy metals, mycotoxins, environmental chemicals, glyphosate, PFAS and detox genetics in one order; other panels list more markers within some single categories.[1]

How many markers does Intrinsic Prism test?

133+ toxin and detox markers across mycotoxins, heavy metals, environmental toxins, PFAS and toxin genetics.[3]

Does a more comprehensive test mean a better result?

Not by itself. Every measurement shows exposure, not disease; pick the categories that match your question.[4]

Does Intrinsic Prism test for microplastics?

No consumer test counts microplastic particles in the body. Intrinsic Prism measures plastic-related chemicals such as BPA, phthalates and parabens.[2]

How do I order the Intrinsic Prism test?

Order online at intrinsicprism.com/buy for $1,999 per participant, one-time. The kit ships within 24 hours, you collect your samples at home, a courier picks up the kit, and your results come with a personalized protocol and 24/7 guidance. Not FDA-cleared; educational, not a diagnosis.
